People dump all sorts of things, large and small, on the streets in London. I started seeing mattresses lying around, and after a while began collecting them by taking photos. They got me thinking about how much gets thrown away; how something in particular that we spend so much time in contact with can be abandoned so easily. And many homeless people in London have nowhere to sleep except perhaps for a sheet of cardboard in a doorway, and all those abandoned beds seemed to hint at that situation too.
